A
rticle 1 International competition starts on Monday 17 november 2008 at 00:00 and ends on Thursday 18 December at 23:59.
Article 2 This competition is organized by CrowdSpirit on behalf of and based on an original idea by the Cycling Pool consisting of Pierre Mendès-France University, the CEA-LID, Uman Lab and G-SCOP laboratories and Grenoble Alpes Métropole. The organizing team consists of Tiana, Pascale, Valérie, Cédric, Serap, Timothée, Eric and Lionel. The organizers can join in exchanges but are excluded from competing for prizes.
Article 3 The theme of this competition is explained in the USERS tab. For a project team’s application to be considered valid, it shall have presented a concept in the Elevator phase by Friday 12 December 2008 midnight at the latest. This concept shall comprise the following:
- at least one specially produced illustration introducing the concept visually;
- a story including the following: the characters, a context (place, time, environment, etc.), actions (initial situation, event, consequences, final situation, etc.), the objects involved (type of bike, interfaces, accessories, etc.) and any related services.
Project teams presenting concepts that do not meet these criteria will be excluded from the competition.
Article 4 The best concepts will be chosen only by the organizing team (see Article 2). The selection criteria for the best concepts are:
- 1. Originality (features, forms, modes of use, etc.)
- 2. Prospects of offering benefit to urban travel (in terms of efficiency, sensations, etc.)
- 3. Number of voters in the elevator phase
Article 5 Winners will be notified by email and the results will be published on the CrowdSpirit site on Friday 19 December 2008:
- 1st prize: €1500
- 2nd prize: €1000
- 3rd prize: €500
Prizes will be paid by cheque within two months and are to be shared among the members of the winning project team (see Article 10).
Article 6 All project teams shall compete in the same competition irrespective of their origins and whether the language spoken is English or French.
Article 7 Should no project team be formed by the participants in the competition, a project team will be led by the organizing team (see Article 2).
Article 8 Anyone can create a new project team to take part in the competition. Applications must be made to Lionel David who will explain how to manage a project team.
Article 9 A project team may propose several concepts which are individually eligible for the prizes. This means that a project team can win all the prizes if it presents three separate concepts that are awarded the first three places.
Article 10 Only members of the project team will be entitled to receive a reward. A project team member is a person who has accepted a job on the challenge. By default, the prize is shared equally among all members of the project team. For instance, in a project team composed of three people, each one will receive one-third of the prize (i.e. €500 for first prize). If they wish to invite someone else onto the project team, each one will receive a quarter of the prize (€375 in the case of first prize).
Article 11 Any team can decide to implement a new prize-sharing arrangement provided that this is clearly explained and all members of the project team have agreed to it in writing.
Article 12 Any project team wishing to use the original idea of someone must invite that person onto the project team in order to use the idea.
Article 13 An idea is deemed original if there is no public record of that idea on the date of the competition. Any idea that does not meet this criterion cannot be considered original. For example: you cannot claim paternity of the idea of a recumbent bicycle because it already exists. The date of publication of the original idea on the CrowdSpirit site shall constitute evidence should a dispute arise relating to precedence.
Article 14 Anyone considering that their original idea has been unfairly used by a project team without their approval shall refer the matter to the organizing team (see Article 2).
Article 15 No person may be member of two project teams at the same time. Anyone may leave a project team to join another one but can never be in more than one team at a time. Anyone leaving a project team shall forfeit any prize to which they would have been entitled unless alternative prize-sharing conditions have been agreed in writing with all members of this project team. That person also waives the right to use their ideas submitted while a member of that project team. However that person retains the right to use all ideas that they submitted within the public environment of the competition or before entering the project team.
Article 16 Any person joining a project team shall participate regularly in exchanges and discussions with the project team. In cases where a person fails to participate in exchanges despite several reminders or does not abide by the Site Use Charter (see bottom of the About page), that person may be excluded from the project team at the discretion of the head of the project team. Any disputes of this kind must be reported as early as possible to the competition organizers.
Any person excluded from a project thereby forfeits any prize. That person also waives the right to use their ideas submitted while a member of that project team. However that person retains the right to use all ideas that they submitted within the public environment of the competition or before entering the project team.
Article 17 The rules of this competition do not replace the Site Use Charter and the special terms and conditions of the competition that must be accepted in order to take part in this competition. Should an article of these rules contradict any information contained in the Site Use Charter or the special terms and conditions of the competition, the Site Use Charter and the special terms and conditions of the competition shall take priority.
Article 18 These rules may be amended throughout the competition. Participants are invited to consult the latest version regularly in the Rules category of the competition blog.
