Problem context :
Today we are all concerned about the effects of UV radiation. We all should use sunscreen to protect our skin, specially against skin cancer. The main problem is that there are too many factors that affect the radiation intensity and its damage to our skin, but also sun exposition is benefical, if taken correctly. This device should tell the most appropriate sunscreen factor to use, measuring the UV radiaton through a sensor and calculating the recommended SPF (sunscreen protection factor) considering the skin complexion and time of the day.
Proposed Solution :
My idea is to develop a small and simple electronic device, that can help to chose the sunscreen factor to use. It would measure the current UV radiation, and suggest a sunscreen factor to use. Other variables are skin complexion and time of the day.
The device would be a disc, with about 2 inches diameter, with a hole in the middle and a display to show the sunscreen factor suggestion. The hole in the middle of the disc is measure the user skin comlplexion against a color scale that is drawed around the disc. So for darker skins, it would give a number to adjust the suggested value at the display. If it is a clearer sking, it the number to adjust the value would be higher, indicating that the user should use a higher sunscreen factor number.
This technology could be used to help people prevent skin cancer and other illnes from sun exposure. This could be installed in public places, warning people about the UV intensity, like beaches, pools, lakes, also cities where lots of people could be warned.
People being warned would increase sunscreen companies profit.

This is a good idea. The device is simple, but useful. However, I find it hard to believe people will be willing to spend any amount of money to purchase a device like this. Most people are aware of the amount of sunscreen they should use or like to use. Most people probably choose to wear a sunscreen level higher or lower than they actually should for personal beliefs/reasons which they have already decided they believe. If the device did something more than just this, it may become a more valid revenue generating opportunity.
