iPhone Car Stereo

Problem context :
There are lots of iPhone users. Of that population, many of them drive some sort of automobile with a car stereo. To use the music on their iPhone, they need to connect the iPhone to their existing car stereo.
This can be done by
- broadcasting the audio via an FM transceiver (shoddy audio quality),
- an auxiliary line-in (optimal audio quality, but messy requires a powering cord for the iPhone or iPod AND an audio cord to connect to the stereo)
- bluetooth (better audio quality than FM, but taxing on power and requires investments in modding the car and car stereo to accept bluetooth as its not ubiquitous)
Proposed Solution :
If a car stereo used the iPhone as its user interface and docked it, one gains:
- optimal audio quality using the music or other media on the iPhone (you could extend the unit to drive a secondary tv monitor to show movies off of the iPhone or iPod Touch)
- reduction in cables and intermediary technologies (saves your power outlets and reduces clutter and noise)
- a charging station for your iPhone or iPod Touch
- use of the car speakers for hands-free telephone usage (eliminates the need for bluetooth to accomplish the same.

What connection to the car are you proposing?

cigarette lighter is the only existing power source in a car, and it cannot transmit data. Either you have to use a tape deck adapter, FM broadcasting of mod the car somehow. If you can think of anything else, then you have an idea.
