When you sit down to a meal in China, there is often a collective un-holstering of mobile phones onto the table so that nobody misses a call or text. In a country where voicemail doesn’t exist, it’s of the utmost importance that mobile calls are picked up whether it be in a movie theater, restaurant or in bed.
Thomas Crampton points us to a Beijing restaurant that provides a plastic cover for sloppy eater’s phone or Blackberry. At this particular restaurant, waiters go the extra mile to delicately put each diner’s phone in the bags.

Sorry, my first thought is just “put your mobile into your bag”. Aren’t the Chinese allowed to eat in peace and quiet? Isn’t lunch an excuse to miss a call?
Isn’t it terrifying that those “condoms” are obviously needed?
